McClure headed to IT research firm

David McClure, former head of the Government Accountability Office's IT management issues group, is leaving the Council for Excellence in Government to join the research firm Gartner Inc. of Stamford, Conn. His first day at Gartner will be Jan. 31.

McClure, who is best known for his expertise in e-government and all things federal IT, will become research director for Gartner's Global Public Sector group.

He has served as vice president of the Council for Excellence in Government, a Washington nonprofit, since July 2002.

'Dave has the unique ability to not only speak coherently to technology customers, but he can also explain technology to political leaders,' said John Kost, Gartner's managing vice president for the public sector group. "Gartner is strong throughout the world and our weakest link was with the U.S. government. Dave fills that out completely."

Before coming to the council, McClure spent 18 years in the role of agency watchdog for IT issues.

McClure will be based in McLean, Va.
